Bread Care Guide

Getting the Best from Your HEB Bread at Home

Our gluten-free bread is baked fresh on the day it is sold and contains no preservatives. If your loaf feels a little firm when you first open it, don’t worry, that’s completely normal for fresh gluten-free bread & you’re in the right place.

As with many traditionally made and wholefood style breads, the texture will naturally firm over time. Lightly warming the loaf in a toaster or microwave refreshes it beautifully, making it ideal to enjoy over 2-3 days.

HEB GOLDEN RULES

  • Eat a slice or more on the day of purchase, the fresher the better!
  • For our bread rolls & baguettes, these are best enjoyed warmed up in the oven, toaster or microwave.
  • Store at room temperature, in an airtight container rather than in the fridge.
  • Freeze if you’re not eating within 1-2 days.
  • Refresh before eating to bring it back to life.

How to Refresh your bread

To enjoy your bread at its very best, we recommend refreshing it before eating. A little refresh goes a long way!

Oven Method:
Lightly sprinkle the entire product with water (we know it feels wrong, but trust us on this!), then place in a preheated oven at 180°C (160°C fan) for 5-8 minutes. This will soften the crust and restore that freshly baked texture.

Toasting Method:
Slice your bread and toast as normal. Gluten-free bread toasts beautifully and brings out its flavour and softness.

Microwave Method:
Wrap a slice in a slightly damp paper towel and microwave for 30seconds – 1 Minute or until your preferred texture. This method will quickly soften the crumb.
